What To Bring On Your Trip

Listed below are a few things that we suggest you bring along on your Florida Keys charter fishing trip.

Thousands of people come to the tropics each year and within hours have severe sunburn. It can ruin your entire vacation and lead to more serious consequences such as skin cancer.  Please take the extra few minutes to apply sunscreen on all parts of exposed skin. The higher the SPF the better- especially out on the water where the sun's rays can be intense.

Sunglasses

The sun's reflection off the ocean can be blinding. Get yourself a good pair of polarized sunglasses and wear them on your trip. The polarized lenses will not only help protect your eyes, but will also cut down on the glare and make the beautiful blues and greens of the water appear much clearer. They will also help you spot fish swimming below the surface.

Make The Most Of Your Fishing Trip

However, there are also a few things that you can do (before and during your charter) to ensure your Florida Keys fishing trip is a success. Below is a list of tips to help make your trip as enjoyable as possible.

Take Measures to Prevent Seasickness

If you've spent any amount of time on the water you've likely experienced some level of seasickness. Our brains are not designed to handle the constant rocking motion of the waves and it's natural to get queasy while out on the ocean.

However you should never let seasickness ruin your trip. There are a variety of medications and devices designed specifically to prevent motion sickness. We suggest trying different methods until you find the one that's right for you.

Travelling With Your Catch

Your Florida Keys fishing vacation has unfortunately come to an end (we hope you come back soon!). You've packed your bags, loaded your vehicle, said goodbye to all the great people you've met on your trip, and now you need to figure out what you're going to do with all those leftover fish fillets.

You can't bear to see them go to waste (nor should you), but you're not quite sure how to take the fish home with you while still preserving its freshness.

Fortunately, there are a few tricks to storing and travelling with your catch. Just follow the steps below and your fish will taste just as delicious in your home kitchen, as they did the day they were caught.

If you are Flying

Always check with your airline before flying with your catch. Airlines often differ in regards to perishable baggage allowances, and what may be acceptable on one airline may not be permitted on the next.

Most airlines will allow you to check whole fish or fish fillets in a tightly sealed, leak-proof container, as long as you DO NOT pack the cooler with "wet" ice.

Cooking Your Catch

seafood_florida_keysOne of the easiest and tastiest ways to enjoy your catch is to bring your fish filets to one of the many great Florida Keys restaurants that will cook your catch.

Most restaurants from Key Largo to Key West will cook your fish exactly how you like it. This is a great way to feed your whole group while saving you cleanup and prep time.

Just have the waiter or waitress tell the chef exactly how you want your fish prepared- fried, blackened, grilled, etc., and what side(s) you would like with it.
