What you’ll catch fishing the Florida Keys Reef, Florida Keys wreck fishing species, Florida Keys Reef Fishing Charter Boats, and more.

Did you know that the Florida Keys are home to the only living coral barrier reef system in the continental United States?
Its true- just a few miles from the dock, you'll find an underwater self-sustaining ecosystem of magnificent coral arrangements, colorful fish, exotic plants, and a diversity of animals and wildlife found nowhere else in the world.
As anglers, we're fortunate to have such a valuable resource right at our back door. Only in the Florida Keys can you hop on a boat and reach such incredible fishing grounds in a matter of minutes.
Whether you are fishing the patch reefs, the deep reef, or one of the many Atlantic Ocean shipwrecks, you'll reel in such an abundance of trophy (and delicious) catches that it won't take long for you to realize why the Florida Keys are referred to as "the fishing capital of the world".
HOW IT'S DONE: Reef fishing in the Florida Keys can involve fishing at a number of different areas. The Keys reef system extends from the aqua colored shallow patch reefs (15-35 feet of water), out to the deeper reef in 80-130 feet of water. Reef fishing can involve bottom fishing with live or dead bait, jigging, free-lining (drifting baits in the current), trolling, or site fishing for large pelagic (migratory) fish.
Wreck fishing generally consists of bottom-dropping live baits, or jigging, at one of the many Florida Keys shipwrecks where large gamefish reside.
WHERE YOU'LL FISH: In the Atlantic Ocean- at the clear shallow patch reefs located just a few miles off shore; the deep reef located in 80 to 130 feet of water; or the Atlantic Ocean wrecks, generally in anywhere from 70 to 300 feet of water.
WHAT YOU'LL CATCH: There's no limit to the variety of fish you can catch on the Florida Keys reef and wrecks. Most heavily targeted and prized catches include: yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, grouper, sailfish, kingfish, cobia, tuna, wahoo, dolphin and more.
THE BOAT(S): Reef and Wreck fishing can be accomplished on a variety of different types of vessels depending on the conditions. Most reef/wreck charter boats are large, spacious, and often come equipped with a fly bridge and tuna tower (to help captains spot fish or birds).
Large reef/wreck center-console charter boats are also common throughout the Keys. (If you have a preference on which type of offshore charter boat you would like to fish, please specify in the Charter Request Form.)
NUMBER OF ANGLERS: Most reef/wreck vessels can accommodate up to 6 anglers. Center-console boats may only be able to fish 4 anglers or less.
PRICE: Reef/Wreck fishing trips can cost anywhere from $450- $1200 depending on the length of trip and total number of anglers.
